The Padres beat the Rockies 9-6 on Sunday, in a game that became a little too close for comfort. The Padres jumped out to a 7-0 lead through the first three innings. Jose Iglesias belted a 2-run single in the 1st inning, and Jackson Merrill continued to show promising signs at the plate, blasting a 3-run homer in the 2nd inning, as the Padres tagged Rockies starter German Marquez for 7 runs (6 ER) in 2.1 innings. Yu Darvish allowed just one run through the first five innings on a solo homer to Mickey Moniak, but ran into trouble in the 6th. After allowing the first two hitters of the inning to reach base, he was relieved by Jeremiah Estrada, who gave up a 3-run homer to Moniak, his second of the game, making it a 7-4 lead. Colorado scored two more runs in the 7th inning, including an RBI-single for Moniak, to make it 7-6. Moniak ended the day 4-4 with two home runs and five RBIs. But Gavin Sheets gave the Padres' a much needed cushion, ripping a ground rule double to centerfield in the bottom of the 8th inning to bring home two runs, giving the Padres' a 3-run lead. Robert Suarez entered in the 9th inning and slammed the door for his 38th save of the season. The Padres will enjoy a day off on Monday and then begin a six-game road trip against the Mets and White Sox on Tuesday.
