2021 Oscars: All the nominees you have to watch, and where to stream them
The 93rd Academy Awards are coming up this Sunday, April 25, which means you have just a few precious days to watch all the award-nominated films you missed in 2020.
Among the big winners at the Golden Globes and the longtime critical darlings, here are the films with the biggest nominations that you have to watch before the Oscars.
Mank
The Academy loves to award films about Hollywood, so “Mank” is bound to clean up at the Oscars. With the most nominations of any film, including spots in the top races, it’s one to watch, literally.

Minari
A darling of film watchers everywhere this year, “Minari” brings major dramatic muscle to the awards show, with a heartfelt story the Academy can’t ignore. After the Golden Globes snubbed the film by putting it in the foreign language category instead of the best picture race, “Minari” may be set for redemption at the Oscars.

Nomadland
“Nomadland” won best picture at the Golden Globes, but even more importantly Chloé Zhao became the first woman to win the best director since Barbara Streisand secured the award for “Yentl” back in 1984. The film could repeat at the Oscars.

Promising Young Woman
“Promising Young Woman” has a lot of buzz going into Sunday, with Emerald Fennell up for both director and original screenplay. It’s hard to ignore the bold film with its striking plot, and it’s worth a watch even if it doesn’t walk away with all the gold it deserves.

Sound of Metal
While Riz Ahmed didn’t snatch the Golden Globe for best actor, he’s got a second shot on Sunday, as does “Sound of Metal” with a best picture nom. It’s another film with plenty of buzz and a good shot at awards glory, especially in categories like best sound and film editing.

Judas and the Black Messiah
With two stars in the supporting actor category, “Judas and the Black Messiah” has a near lock on the race, especially since those leading men are Daniel Kaluuya and Lakeith Stanfield. The movie also has a shot at best picture.

The Father
After her win for best actress in 2019, Olivia Colman may take the trophy once again for “The Father,” though costar Anthony Hopkins has an equally good chance of winning in his category too.

The Trial of the Chicago 7
Academy Award-winner Aaron Sorkin and recent Golden Globe winner (for the “Borat” sequel) Sacha Baron Cohen make a powerful duo in several of this year’s Oscar races with “The Trial of the Chicago 7.”

Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom
The posthumous nomination for Chadwick Boseman is more than lip service to a dearly departed acting talent; Boseman deserves the Oscar for his portrayal of Levee Green in the adaptation of August Wilson’s iconic drama. Don’t be surprised if costar Viola Davis picks up a trophy either.
