For the first time in public, Tucci has shared that he quietly went through treatment for cancer three years ago. In an interview with Vera Magazine, the actor said that he was diagnosed with a tumor at the base of his tongue.

“It was too big to operate, so they had to do high-dose radiation and chemo,” Tucci said. “I’d vowed I’d never do anything like that, because my first wife died of cancer, and to watch her go through those treatments for years was horrible.”
In 2009, Tucci’s wife Kate passed away of breast cancer at the age of 47. Before her death, the couple had been married since 1995 and shared three children, twins Nicolo and Isabel and daughter Camilla.
“The kids were great, but it was hard for them,” Tucci added. “I had a feeding tube for six months. I could barely make it to the twins’ high school graduation.”
Tucci added that his cancer is most likely not returning, but he shared how he always is cautious regarding his illness.
“[Cancer] makes you more afraid and less afraid at the same time,” he said. “I feel much older than I did before I was sick. But you still want to get ahead and get things done.”
While Tucci has revealed personal details about his life, he always makes sure his fans are alright.
In April 2020, during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the “Devil Wears Prada” star reminded the world that you could make sophisticated cocktails while you drink alone in self-isolation.
Tucci showed off his bartender skills by making the perfect Negroni, while his wife, Felicity Blunt, recorded the three-minute clip on Instagram.
“We’re going to make a Negroni up,” the 59-year-old said while decked out in a fitted black polo shirt and belted slacks. “Mostly people have Negronis on the rocks and I think actually they’re quite nice up.”
