This piece contains spoilers for the March 11 episode of "Grey's Anatomy."
"Grey’s Anatomy" fans are no stranger to sudden character deaths and unexpected plot twists, and this season was no different after the show lost one of its beloved doctors.
On Thursday, the suspenseful medical drama killed off Dr. Andrew DeLuca, played by actor Giacomo Giannitti, who has worked in the role since 2015, according to Fox News. In the episode, the character was reportedly stabbed while trying to track down a sex trafficker.
The show left fans on the edge of their seat by making it appear that DeLuca was initially going to pull through. However while on the operating table, he had a vision of love with show veteran Meredith Grey, who is currently in a coma battling COVID-19. Grey is played by actress Ellen Pompeo.

During a beach dream sequence, DeLuca told her: "No matter what happens, I want you to know that I never felt seen the way you saw me. I never felt inspired the way you inspired me. You made me want to be not just my best self, but better. And yeah, I felt small around you sometimes. I felt insecure. I wanted something from you that I needed to give to myself. But here, now, on this beach with you, I get it. I don't just get it, I feel it. I get who I am. I know my own soul, my strength."

"I'll miss you. If I go back and you don't, I'll miss you," Grey told DeLuca.
"You'll be okay, Meredith," he said. "I have to go." Then, he ran other to his mother who was waiting for him.

Fans were shocked by the sudden character death, and took to Twitter to share their heartbreak.
"NOOOOOOOOO THIS IS WRONG DELUCA CAN'T BE DEAD," one user exclaimed.
"HOW DARE YOU DO THIS TO ME AGAIN SHONDA," another user wrote.
The ABC show created by industry titan Shonda Rhimes is currently on their 17th season. It airs Thursdays at 9pm ET/PT on ABC.
