It was a rough day for the officiating crew in Sunday's Patriots-Dolphins game, with two particularly bad -- and costly -- calls going against New England.
While the calls aren't the reason the Patriots ultimately lost the game, 33-24 -- the Pats had a plenty rough day themselves -- they undoubtedly added to the day's frustration for Pats fans.
That includes James White, the Patriots' veteran running back who is watching from home while on injured reserve. White has been active on Twitter throughout the game, and expressed his annoyance with the two big calls against New England.
In the first quarter, Brandon Bolden was called for unnecessary roughness while defending a Dolphins fake punt, despite the fact he managed to avoid any meaningful contact, and certainly didn't make any contact with the head. White was among the many to point out the absurdity of the call.
Then in the third quarter, Jalen Mills got called for pass interference on a play where, again, he seemed to avoid any penalty-worthy contact. The only reason there was any contact at all was because Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa badly underthrew the pass, forcing his receiver to stop and try to work back to the ball. The penalty put the ball at the one-yard line and the Dolphins scored on the next play.
