Jaylen Brown’s Boston home sale shouldn't alarm fans

With Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown’s Fort Point penthouse for sale, it’s easy to jump to conclusions about the guard leaving the team via trade.

But this listing alone shouldn’t be cause for alarm among C’s fans. It’s the second time Brown has listed this property for sale since 2024. Notably, in that year, Brown was offered a Supermax deal with Boston, which he happily accepted.

Since that time, it appears Brown has rented the primary residence in the property out. The Sarkis Team describes the home as “Boston’s most unique residence,” and it carries a price tag of $4,995,000. It includes 3,000 square feet of loft-style living space and three bedrooms. Attached is another studio space with another 500 square feet.

Brown had a career-best regular season with the Celtics before they fell to the Philadelphia 76ers in the first round of the NBA Playoffs. Their early exit has stoked speculation and plenty of rumors about whether president of basketball operations Brad Stevens will make a dramatic change to bring Boston back to Finals.

The Celtics rank 20th in current salary cap allocations for the upcoming season. The combination of Supermax contracts between Brown and teammate Jayson Tatum accounts for 70% of cap space, but it would be hard to top the talent and experience shared between the two wings, who have both won All-NBA honors in the past.

Fans can still spot Brown at the center of plenty of trade rumors. CEO and founder of the Ringer Bill Simmons just recently mused, “If the Celtics trade Jaylen Brown, it would be for multiple pieces, more flexibility, guys that would lead to one extra move after.”

Simmons’ perspective is particularly interesting when taking into account team announcer and NBA champion Brian Scalabrine’s comments last month that the Celtics could be “loading up the slingshot” to get themselves back into championship contention by staying “under the tax for one more year.”
