Jose Iglesias is coming back to the Red Sox

After eight years away, Jose Iglesias is rejoining the team that brought him into professional baseball.

The veteran shortstop had agreed to a deal with the Red Sox after being released by the Angels.

The 31-year-old played in 114 games for Los Angeles, hitting .259 with a .670 OPS and eight home runs. He has exclusively played shortstop since leaving the Red Sox in 2013 in the three-way deal that brought Boston Jake Peavy, manning the position for Detroit, Cincinnati, Baltimore and the Angels.

Iglesias is on the Red Sox' 28-man active roster and wearing the No. 12. Known for his defense, the Cuba native will likely get the majority of activity at shortstop while Xander Bogaerts continues reside on the COVID-19-related injured list.
