Potential Patriots target Matthew Stafford reportedly traded to Rams in blockbuster

The first big quarterback domino of the offseason has fallen. Matthew Stafford is reportedly going to the Rams, with Jared Goff and a haul of draft picks heading to Detroit in return.

The Lions have traded Stafford to Los Angeles in exchange for Goff, two future first-round picks and a third-round pick, according to Adam Schefter.

The trade brings Stafford's 12-year tenure in Detroit to an end and ushers in a new era of Lions football, which may indeed be headlined by Goff.

For the Rams, it marks a win-now move after the team had clearly lost confidence in Goff.

The 26-year-old Goff, who helped the Rams reach the Super Bowl in the 2018 season, is signed through 2024. He was the first overall pick in 2016.

The two first-round picks are the real value of the deal for the Lions, who are on the verge of another substantial rebuild under new GM Brad Holmes -- who came to Detroit after 18 years with the Rams.
