James White is officially staying in New England. According to multiple reports, the veteran running back has agreed to a two-year deal with the Patriots. NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reports that the deal is worth $5 million total, with $500,000 guaranteed.
White, 30, has spent his entire eight-year career with the Patriots. He had six receptions in each of New England's first two games last season, but suffered a season-ending hip injury in the third.
Brandon Bolden assumed a lot of the pass-catching duties out of the backfield in White's absence, but White is presumably now set up to retake that role and serve as a complement to Damien Harris and Rhamondre Stevenson and a security blanket for Mac Jones.
White also brings important leadership to the Patriots, as he has served as a team captain each of the last four seasons.
White has amassed 381 receptions, 3,278 receiving yards, 1,278 rushing yards, and 36 total touchdowns in his career.
ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reports that the Raiders also showed interest in White, which isn't surprising given how long Josh McDaniels worked with White in Foxboro.
