How Bruins have overcome Bergeron and Krejci injuries
Linus Ullmark met with the media Tuesday morning for the first time since he tried to drop the gloves with Panthers forward Matthew Tkachuk during the Bruins’ Game 4 win on Sunday.
Ullmark was not available to the media after the game because he was receiving treatment, according to Bruins media relations, and Boston was off on Monday.
Ullmark explained what was going through his head during the altercation, which ended with him and Tkachuk both being assessed 10-minute misconducts.
“Things happen so fast and so quickly,” Ullmark said. “Then you have everybody just trying to stick up for each other, and I tried to do the same there at the end. It’s not something that I’m actively seeking out, especially late in the games like that. If it was a 3-2 game, I wouldn’t have done anything. Now it’s 5-2, it’s a little different feeling to it, I would say it. It’s kind of hard to explain, but if you’re up 5-2, there’s no need for stupid stuff like that.”
Ullmark said the reaction from his teammates was positive, with some surprise mixed in.
“Mostly positive. Probably a lot of, not confusion, but surprise as well,” Ullmark said. “Obviously it’s the first time that I’ve ever even dropped the gloves. First [10-minute misconduct] as well, I think, in my career. My job is to stop pucks and not doing stuff like that obviously, so I think that’s where most of the surprise came from.”
Ullmark heard from friends and family as well, including his mom.
“It’s the same thing there, a lot of surprising comments,” he said. “My mom basically was the first one to ask what happened. She hasn’t seen me like that. Brother as well. But mostly positive things.”
What did he tell mom?
“I spoke the truth to her. Can’t lie to mom,” Ullmark said.
Ullmark was a full participant in Tuesday’s practice. He skipped Friday’s morning skate and was listed as a game-time decision for that night, but he has nonetheless started all four games this series, going 3-1 with a .926 save percentage and 2.55 goals-against average.
Asked how he’s feeling, Ullmark responded simply, “I feel great, thanks.”
