Former Patriots quarterback Ryan Mallett sadly passed away on Tuesday in a drowning accident in Florida. According to Deltaplex News, Mallett was transported to a hospital from a beach and was pronounced deceased at the hospital.
Mallett played seven seasons in the NFL for the Patriots, Houston Texans, and Baltimore Ravens. Several of his former teammates reacted to the heartbreaking news of his death on social media:
Former Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, a teammate of Mallett's in New England from 2011-2013, shared the following message on his Instagram story:
“We lost a great man. Thank you for everything Ryan. Praying for the Mallett family and all their loved ones tonight.”
The Patriots released the following statement on Mallett's passing:
"The New England Patriots are deeply saddened to learn of the sudden and unexpected passing of former quarterback Ryan Mallett. Our thoughts are with the Mallett family, his former teammates and all who are mourning his loss."
Head coach Bill Belichick released a statement as well:
"I am extremely saddened by Ryan's tragic passing. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and the many people whose lives he touched."
Mallett was most recently coaching football at White Hall High School in Arkansas. He was just 35 years old.
