During the October 7 appearance, Johnson spoke to Barrymore about her “great” neighbors, Jimmy Kimmel and his wife Molly McNearney, E! News notes. She explained that they “have a lot of parties that they don’t invite me to.”

"People have gotten in trouble for claiming not being invited to your parties," Barrymore said referencing Johnson’s moment on “Ellen.”

"That was amazing, by the way," Barrymore continued, adding, "Like, amazing."

In November 2019, Johnson appeared as a guest on DeGeneres' show, and the conversation quickly took a turn for the worse. The conversation began with DeGeneres asking Johnson why she wasn’t invited to her 30th birthday bash.

"Actually, no, that's not the truth, Ellen. You were invited," the actress responded. "Last time I was on the show last year, you gave me a bunch of s--- about not inviting you, but I didn't even know you wanted to be invited. I didn't even know you liked me!"

DeGeneres replied, "Of course I like you. You knew I liked you! You've been on the show many times and don't I show like?"

Johnson then dissed the talk show host saying that Tig Notaro peformed at her party. “She’s my favorite comedian other than you,” Johnson said.

DeGeneres was quick to hit back at the actress, saying "I was just talking to my favorite actress the other day, Jen Aniston."

In May, DeGeneres announced the end of her long-running talk show "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" following the conclusion of its 19th season in 2022.

While some believe the show's end can be attributed to the allegations that the comedian ran a "toxic work environment," some fans on social media pointed to DeGeneres’ awkward moment with Johnson as the beginning of her downfall.

On September 13, Degeneres began her 13th and final season. Aniston joined the show for the 23rd time, while Jimmy Kimmel made his 20th appearance.
