SHEWeekend
SHE Weekend is underway in Las Vegas, bringing more than 100 U.S. women Olympians and Paralympians together for a four-day celebration created to give elite athletes the recognition they deserve long after the medals are handed out.
Flavor Flav started the event after his support for women’s sports grew from one generous offer into a much bigger mission.
He first stepped in to help the U.S. women’s water polo team, then became a sponsor and official hype man for USA Bobsled and Skeleton.
The celebration runs through July 19 and includes Team USA athletes such as Alysa Liu, Amber Glenn, Hilary Knight, Breezy Johnson, Brittany Bowe and Madison Chock.
SHE Weekend kicked off yesterday with a Las Vegas-style parade on the Strip. Olympic athletes rode on floats alongside local sports organizations and community groups before the celebration moved to Toshiba Plaza.
A free concert featuring Public Enemy, Grace Bowers, Blu DeTiger and other special guests followed the parade.
The rest of the weekend includes dinners, shows, private events and community programs centered on honoring the athletes.
Flav says the goal is to spoil these women and give them the flowers they deserve.
He also hopes SHE Weekend becomes an annual Las Vegas tradition and inspires more people and companies to support women’s sports.
