o The actor shocked fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe over the weekend!
o On Saturday, Marvel revealed that he is coming back to the franchise in the upcoming movie “Avengers: Doomsday” and “Avengers: Secret Wars” but not as Tony Stark and Iron Man!
o Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige surprised the crowd at San Diego Comic-Con when he announced Downey’s return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe — this time as Doctor Doom, or Victor Von Doom.
o RDJ, stepped forward to reveal himself onstage and tore off his mask to screaming cheers from the crowd.
o So how is this possible? Are the two characters related? Fans are trying to wrap their heads around this.
o Doctor Doom always had a feud with Mister Fantastic from The Fantastic Four but he has had issues with Iron Man in the past.
o Fans are saying that maybe Downey is just playing a new MCU role, with not connection to Tony Stark, being that he never takes off his mask.
o Others are saying Doom may be a reimagined variant of Tony Stark.
o Downey said on stage, “New mask, same task. What can I say? I like playing complicated characters.”
