On Monday (April 18,) the team announced that GRAMMY-winning artist, Macklemore and former NFL running back, Marshawn Lynch would be joining the group as minority investors. The rapper and the football player are claiming small stakes in the sports franchise but will play a big role in fan outreach and engagement. Originally, Hollywood big wig, Jerry Bruckheimer was a member of the ownership group.

Kraken CEO Tod Leiweke told The Associated Press, “I’d say that perhaps we didn’t need just two more investors. But these are investors who uniquely want to help us in the community and are excited about what we’re doing.”

The Kraken is getting ready to close out their inaugural season, after spending $650 million in expansion fees to join the NHL.

Macklemore explained that part of his ownership role will be focused on engaging the music community and developing partnerships between the team and up-and-coming young artists. The “Thrift Shop” rapper hopes to take advantage of smaller spaces in the Climate Pledge Arena for intimate shows on game nights.
