We love a good hero bartender story.
Last week at a bar in Saint Petersburg, FL, a bartender did some quick thinking and got a lascivious creep off a couple of annoyed female patrons.
One of the ladies, Trinity Allie, explained it via a tweet pic of the sly barkeep.
Allie’s caption reads, “This man was harrassssing me and my friend and the bartender passed this note to me acting like it was my receipt ! Legit the type of bartender everyone needs.”
As the story goes, the bartender, named Max Gutierrez, slid a note that looked like a receipt to check with the women about the leeching lothario next to them.
The note read: “If this guy is bothering you, put your ponytail on your other shoulder, and I will have him removed. He’s giving me the creeps.”
Well, the ponytail must’ve been flipped quick, because in a follow-up tweet, Allie says Gutierrez then yelled at the bum, “You need to get the f*** away from these girls who clearly are not interested,” before kicking him out.
In the first comment, Ms. Allie makes sure to explain, “I made [the bartender] pose for this after the guy left lol just to show my appreciation.”
The look on the Hawaiian shirt-clad bartender’s face is priceless.
The tweet went viral, with over 200,000 and counting viewers loving the simple moment of chivalry. Within all the supportive thumbs-up comments were some regional bartending cues for such an invasive jerk.
“A lot of bars around here,” said one commentator, “have a menu in the ladies room with fake drinks to order if you need help. If your being harassed, stalked, abused, anything, you order the drink and they’ll call you a cab or the cops depending on the drink."
Another suggested, “Most bars do this or should. Ordering an Angel Shot is code that you need help. You will be escorted to a car/taxi/Uber or the person bothering you will be escorted to the exit. The more you know.”
Eventually, Max the bartender himself replied with an amazing update: “Hey that's me! Lol Fun update, the guy I kicked out Sunday night came back to the bar JUST NOW for a beer, told him I wouldn't serve him.”
Another reminder to tip your bartenders, even if the tip is your town’s trick for getting rid of that dude.
