Armie Hammer’s estranged wife has released an official statement on her Instagram page.
Last week, Elizabeth Chambers acknowledged her estranged husband’s ongoing “cannibal” scandal. Chambers, who previously filed for divorce from the “Call Me By Your Name” star, reportedly commented on a photo of Hammer’s director and co-star in the Oscar-nominated film.
Celebrity gossip column “Just Jared” posted a photo to the director, Luca Guadagnino, and actor, Timothee Chalamet, while teasing a new movie project.
“No. Words,” Chambers commented on the post.
Chambers has now released her first statement directly addressing the controversy. She said that she is “devastated” and has “been trying to process everything that has transpired” for several weeks.
“I am shocked, heartbroken, and devastated. Heartbreak aside, I am listening, and will continue to listen and educate myself on these delicate matters,” Chambers captioned a photo of a Cayman Islands beach. “I didn’t realize how much I didn’t know.”
The drama began last month when Hammer suddenly dropped out of co-starring with Jennifer Lopez in the upcoming action-comedy “Shotgun Wedding.”
“Given the imminent start date of ‘Shotgun Wedding’, Armie has requested to step away from the film and we support him in his decision,” a production spokesperson said. The role will now be recast, but no replacement has been announced.
The news came after alleged social media messages that were reportedly Hammer’s were leaked online. The messages have not been verified for their authenticity but were graphic and sexually explicit.
Hammer addressed the controversy in a statement about his decision to exit the production.
“I’m not responding to these bull**** claims but in light of the vicious and spurious online attacks against me, I cannot in good conscience now leave my children for 4 months to shoot a film in the Dominican Republic. Lionsgate is supporting me in this and I’m grateful to them for that,” Hammer said in his statement.
Hammer was recently seen in the Netflix movie “Rebecca” and will appear in the upcoming thriller “Death on the Nile.”
