(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — COVID-19 vaccines aren't just helping those who get them. One of the people administering the vaccines says it means the world to her.
The pandemic has been challenging for Merri Lazenby, a director of engagement for Northwestern Medicine, who has tried to make sure her workers stay safe as they treat COVID-19 patients.
When she recently was offered the opportunity to help administer vaccines to her co-workers and the public during her off-hours, she jumped at the chance.
Putting shots in arms has been a wonderful experience, she says, partly because the vaccine represents hope for people who want to reunite with family.
“It filled my soul as a nurse, to be able to do something clinical along the way. It’s been awhile since I’ve been able to do that. Really, having that education and being able to be part of the solution is just really a neat feeling.”
Lazenby, who is also an emergency room-registered nurse, is so good at administering shots that most of the people she gives them to say they don't feel a thing.
She feels something: gratitude.
