Diaz, 49, says that she and the Good Charlotte guitarist, 42, were set up after Joel Madden and his wife introduced them. Joel is currently married to Nicole Richie. The two have a daughter, Harlow, age 13, and a son, Sparrow, age 12.

"I met (my husband) through my now sister-in-law and brother-in-law. I met them first and then they didn’t set us up but we were in the same room because of them, and then we found each other," Diaz told the outlet. She added, “I was like, ‘How come I didn’t see him before?’”

"Which is funny," interjected Diaz's business partner Katherine Power, "Because you saw his twin brother."

Diaz explained that despite being twins, they are very much their own person.

"They’re not the same, they’re so different," she said. "Even though they’re twins, they’re very, very different, obviously."

Recalling that first meeting with Benji Madden, Diaz continued, "I saw him walking towards me and I was like, 'Huh, he’s hot. I haven’t seen him before.'"

“But then when I saw him, like who he was — that’s what made me really be like, ‘Oh, you, you, you’re special. You’re the guy. You’re the hidden gem in my life,’” she gushed.

The actress and “The Anthem” singer were married in 2015. They welcomed their first daughter, Raddix Madden, in January of 2020.

The couple later stressed the importance of privacy with their new addition.

"While we are overjoyed to share this news, we also feel a strong instinct to protect our little one's privacy," they continued in the joint statement. "So we won't be posting pictures or sharing any more details, other than the fact that she is really really cute!! Some would even say RAD," they added with a smile.

Diaz later stepped away from acting to spend more time with her growing family.

While appearing on Kevin Hart’s talk show “Hart to Heart," Diaz revealed that she still loves acting and “could go on forever,” but said there were parts of her life she “wasn’t touching” because the career and fame “was so big.”

Diaz’s career in Hollywood, which spanned 20 years, began in 1994 on “The Mask” and concluded in 2014 with “Annie.”
