When it comes to grocery shopping, most of us have a preferred store we like to go to, whether it’s for convenience, price or environment. Wicker & Wilde have theirs, too, including Harris Teeter's in Williamsburg and wish one was in Richmond! Rebecca loves going to different stores because they each offer something worthwhile. For example, Good Foods Grocery, which was just recently purchased by Commonwealth Autism "to pioneer a new career program for those on the spectrum." Isn't that wonderful?
With hundreds of supermarket chains across the country, some are definitely more beloved than others, bringing loyal customers back week after week. A new report reveals Americans’ favorite grocery store and it’s much smaller and lesser known than some popular stores.
USA Today 10Best had a panel of experts come up with a list of top grocery stores, then readers voted on their favorites based on value, selection and great service.
While you might expect to see a huge chain like Costco or Walmart topping the list, according to this research, the best grocery store in the U.S. is Hy-Vee. Haven’t heard of it? You’re not alone. The supermarket is employee-owned and was started in Iowa back in 1930. Hy-Vee has more than 285 stores located across the Midwest and their slogan is "a helpful smile in every aisle.”
Several smaller chains make the list, including The Fresh Market, Aldi and Trader Joe’s. Large supermarket chains are also favorites, including Wegmans and Publix.
