„Humming” is a unique vocalization produced by all the bears, except the Giant Panda. This sound is closest in form and context to „purring” (which bears do not do). Humming consists of a sustained series of short pulsing sounds of about the same tone and volume, coming from low in the throat and repeated at the rate of about ten per second, interrupted only by quick inhalations.
