Peanut Butter Recall
Wicker & Wilde

Wicker & Wilde mentioned this the other day. Jif Peanut Butter Is Recalled For Possible Salmonella Contamination.

J.M. Smucker says the recall involves certain types of Jif peanut butter that are sold nationwide. The recalled products include creamy and crunchy peanut butter and peanut butter to-go packs. Several people have gotten sick from the product.

The recall covers several months of the product being sold. The affected lot codes cover 1274425 through 2140425, which you can find next to the best-if-used-by date. You can view the full FDA announcement for a list of recalled products and their UPC codes.

NOW, the count of companies that use the peanut butter and now have recalled products is up to 18.

About 16 people in a dozen states got sick, and now the recall has now been extended to other products made with Jif. Here’s a list:

- Taharka Brothers Peanut Butter Cup Ice Cream

- Walmart and Fudgeamentals Fudge

- Del Monte brand cut fruit and vegetable products

- Ready-to-eat Super Asian Chicken Salad (distributed to an Amazon Go location in Washington)

There’s a complete list of the recalled products here on the FDA's website that details how to check products in your home and what to do if they’re affected by the recall.

Keep in mind that most people recover from salmonellosis with no problems, but 450 people in the U.S. die from it every year.

The last recall list… and it’s long… is here. Both the CDC and FDA say before using any product with peanut butter in it, verify that it’s not Jif. They also warn not to give the tainted product to your dogs.

If you have any Jif under recall, throw it out and/or contact your retailer.

Symptoms of salmonella infection include fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.
