SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS - Lucy is a very sweet dog who was surrendered by her owner to a shelter. This lovely girl went in with no history but we are slowly putting together her medical chart and learning about her behavior. Lucy is believed to be 12 years old and is developing cataracts. Presently they are not impairing her vision. She has a grade 3 heart murmur that is causing no issues and has moderate tartar on the teeth. Lucy tests positive for ehrlichia, a tick borne illness, but only very faintly. She requires no treatment and presents no concerns. On the other hand Lucy is happy and active, loves people and other well behaved dogs and is a wonderful companion. She was said to be house broken by her previous owners, but we find that to be truthful only when she is given several opportunities to be outside during the day. She generally goes 3-4 hours without the need to urinate so is best suited to over nights in a crate. Lucy is up to date with vaccines and will be spayed and microchipped as a part of our adoption process. . We don't believe she is a good choice for a home with young children, but we do believe she would make an excellent lap dog! She would also be a wonderful companion to a senior adult. We may waive the adoption fee for a perfect home!

Our adoption process starts with your email to carerescue@aol.com or Petfinder inquiry. After we receive it, we will email you our prescreening questionnaire. Your answers will help us determine that your home and lifestyle matches the needs of the dog and our adoption criteria. Once determined, we will set up a private meeting with you and the dog at a park near our private kennel just east of Richmond. After meeting the dog and determining that it matches your preferences for a pet, we will accept your application. A home visit by one of our trained volunteers is required for all adoptions, and we will speak with your vet to ensure that you are a responsible pet owner.
