Brookhaven, Pennsylvania, couple Mark and Jessica Getty went into their local Lowe’s to get materials to build stable parallel bars for their disabled son, William.
The parallel bars were meant to help William; born very prematurely at 23 weeks and has quadriplegic spastic cerebral palsy which makes it hard for him to walk and the parallel bars are meant to help William learn to walk. While in the PVC aisle, Jessica and Mark were approached by Lowe’s employee Dave Urban, who offered to help them get their supplies
He thought he would just be finding some fittings or making a couple cuts but when he saw William, he quickly grasped the importance of the project. Dave took it a step further and ended up building the set to the specifications researched by the family in around 30 minutes, something that would have taken the Gettys all afternoon.
At home, William uses the bars to help pull himself up, stand, and walk. Hoping to get stronger each day with the goal that he’ll eventually be able to do it all on his own.
Jessica says they couldn’t have asked for such an amazing situation.
