Medical Concerns: Tested positive for exposure to Lyme disease. Treated for the same. No long term concerns after treatment.
Behavioral Concerns: Male doxie mentality - an alpha dog that doesn't get along well with other pets.
Special Considerations: Are you ready for an Excellent Adventure?? Bill and Ted are a bonded pair of adorable 3-4 year old Dachshunds. They are brothers, actually littermates, and get along famously with each other.
But only with each other. Not with any other dogs, cats, rabbits, ferrets, hamsters, squirrels, moles, voles, badgers, racoons or other little critters. Did you know that Dachshund literally translates into “badger dog?” Dachshunds were born and bred to flush out small critters underground. With this pair, their prey instinct is in warp-speed overdrive! When they see those other cute little fluffies, the chase is on and it’s not pretty. To help curb this behavior, engaging them in regular consistent play that involves chasing, catching and retrieving, like playing fetch with their favorite toy, can provide a healthy outlet for their instincts. They are also very good at digging so can't be left alone outside where they might tunnel free.
Because of this trait, they must be the only pets in the house and only with adults. We are really hoping for someone who understands or is willing to learn their breed specific needs to apply. In the right situation, they will be loyal and enjoyable pets. They are confident, clever and intelligent and a joy to be with. We are working hard for them to have a chance at a normal dog’s life with a loving owner in a safe environment.
