Wildlife viewing is an important activity on DWR’s Wildlife Management Areas. The Whitehurst Tract of the Princess Anne WMA is a popular destination for wildlife viewers and photographers and a stop on the Virginia Bird and Wildlife Trail’s Seashore to Cypress Loop in the Coastal Region—206 species of bird have been seen here! Getting good views of skittish wildlife without disturbing them can be a challenge. To address this, DWR staff designed and built a viewing blind that allows for great views without bothering wildlife. The blind is angled to provide a full view of one of the impoundments and was designed to be barrier free. A compacted gravel slope elevates the viewer without the need for steps. The openings are set at a variety of heights that accommodate viewers of all ages and heights, including folks that may be using mobility devices.
