'Game of Thrones' prequel casts 'The Crown's Matt Smith in lead role


The “Game of Thrones” prequel is getting some news faces.

HBO and HBO Max have announced the casting of three additional actors for “House of Dragons,” a series based on George R.R. Martin’s book “Fire & Blood.”

Matt Smith, whose famous roles include The Doctor on “Doctor Who” and a young Prince Phillip on Netflix’s “The Crown,” will play Prince Daemon Targaryen, King Viserys' younger brother and the heir to the throne.

According to HBO, his character as “a peerless warrior and a dragonrider who possesses the true blood of the dragon. But it is said that whenever a Targaryen is born, the gods toss a coin in the air."
