For Meryl Streep, method acting is no longer in fashion.

The 71-year-old recently recently revealed why she gave up method acting, an immersive technique in which an actor "becomes" the character they are portraying.

The three-time Academy Award winner said her role as Miranda Priestly in the hit 2006 film “The Devil Wears Prada” made her so "depressed" that she gave up the technique entirely, Insider reports.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly in honor of the film's 15th anniversary, the actress said her portrayal of the cruel and ruthless fashion boss made her feel awful.

"It was horrible! I was [miserable] in my trailer," Streep said. "I could hear them all rocking and laughing. I was so depressed! I said, 'Well, it's the price you pay for being boss.'"

She continued, "That's the last time I ever attempted a method thing!"

Her co-stars, Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt, also spoke in the interview about their experiences on set with Streep.

"Meryl is so gregarious and fun as hell, in some ways it wasn't the most fun for her having to remove herself," said Blunt, who played Priestly's assistant.

Blunt added that Streep was never “unapproachable on set” and that she felt that she could always speak with the star, the outlet reported.

Hathaway, who played Streep’s second assistant and aspiring journalist, said that while she felt “intimidated” by Streep as Priestly, she “always felt cared for.”

"I knew that whatever she was doing to create that fear, I appreciated [because] I also knew she was watching out for me," Hathaway said.

She continued, "I remember having the experience of watching [her] watch me, and [she] altered [her] performance ever so slightly, and just made it a little bit different, and brought more out of me and got me to break through whatever barrier I had," Hathaway said.

In addition to grossing over $325 million at the global box office, "The Devil Wears Prada" earned Streep’s performance an Oscar nomination for best actress.
