Count Martin Short among the Steve Martin fans who don’t want him to retire.

As the collaborators and friends attended the 2022 Emmy Awards this week, Short was asked by E! on the red carpet about Martin’s recent comments on retirement, which he made to The Hollywood Reporter in August.

Martin told the publication at the time he wasn’t going to directly move into retirement but would not pursue new work.
Addressing his pal’s remarks on the red carpet, Martin said, “I can’t imagine him ever retiring. I hope not, because then you know what happens to me,” proceeding to then jokingly draw a finger across his neck.
Both performers were nominated for Outstanding Actor in a Comedy Series at this week’s Emmy Awards for their work in “Only Murders in the Building.”
Martin told People he was pleasantly surprised the Hulu series had become a hit. “I don’t think you ever really expect it, so it’s a nice surprise when it happens,” he said. “I am thrilled to be in an undeniable hit show – and to be working with my friend that I would hang out with anyway.”
In the same chat, he said the live stage show him and Short have toured might never go away.
“We’ll probably do our live show until we drop.”
Serious friendship goals.
Martin and Short memorably co-starred in “Father of the Bride” and “Father of the Bride Part II.”
