ESSENCE Fest is officially back after two years of hosting an all-virtual festival. The 2022 ESSENCE Festival will be returning in-person from June 30-July 3. Truly a celebration of music and Black culture, the 27th annual festival promises to be a multi-generational experience.

Janet Jackson returning as a headliner
Pop superstar Janet Jackson is headlining ESSENCE Festival, performing over the Fourth of July weekend. “See u guys in NOLA at @essencefest July 2 #essencefest,” Janet tweeted Thursday. The GRAMMY-winning artist performed at the festival in 2010, and a decade later in 2020.
Nicki Minaj's ESSENCE Fest debut
Nicki Minaj is also hitting the main stage this year, marking her ESSENCE Fest debut. The international Rap queen is a fan favorite among all ages! “Catch Nicki Minaj, Nicki Lewinski, Nicki the Ninja, Nicki the Boss, Nicki The Harajuku Barbie shut down NOLA!,” the official ESSENCE Festival account tweeted.
The live concerts at the Superdome and Superlounges
Live performances will take place every night at the Superdome and Superlounges. The 2022 lineup features Summer Walker, Chloe x Halle, Jazmine Sullivan. The Isley Brothers, The Roots & Friends, New Edition, and Kevin Hart. Past performers were Brandy, Bruno Mars, John Legend, Mary J. Blige, Chaka Khan, Patti LaBelle, Janelle Monae, and more.

ESSENCE Fest is the nation’s largest festival by per day attendance. This year’s festival will have both new and returning activations. ESSENCE’s Wellness House, Wealth & Power Stage, Tech Summit, Men’s Experience, and Marketplace are some of its flagship events. The ESSENCE Day of Service will also be returning to help the local community.
