While Valentine’s Day is marketed heavily to couples who are head over heels for each other, the fictional “Parks and Recreation” character suggested that we show some much-needed love to the incredible women in our lives instead.

She coined the term in an episode of the sitcom that aired in 2010, and since then, ladies all around the world have been paying tribute to their best friends every February 13.

According to a press release, there are plenty of reasons why you should be celebrating your gal pals everyday, but particularly on the day before Valentine's Day.

For starters, they love you unconditionally. The release notes that more than 70% females consider their female friends as a family member.

Roughly 60% of women revealed that they value common interests with their gal pals. While 83% of females said their female friendships are important to them, 23% called them essential.

And there’s no reason why you shouldn’t show a best friend that you love her as 66% of women admit to buying non-romantic gifts for their buddies in February.

We’re celebrating some of our favorite Hollywood gal pals in honor of the holiday that champions the power of friendship.

Since Poehler is responsible for the holiday, it only makes sense to honor her longtime friendship with fellow comedian Tina Fey.

They’ve been best friends for nearly 30 years, having met in 1993 at Chicago’s ImprovOlympic, and we’re so grateful as they’ve become TV’s comedy power duo.

Poehler once called Fey the “fiercest and most talented voice in the comedy world,” per Elle.

NBC’s leading ladies have been friends for years, citing their “meet-cute” at Hargitay's son’s birthday party.

“She knew that I was in New York and invited me to his first birthday party in Central Park. And as she tells it, she never thought I was going to actually show up, and I did,” Messing said.

“The thing that really makes us feel safe with each other and seen by each other,” Messing said, “is the fact that we both know what it’s like to be on a hit show where there is a very passionate fan base. Where while you’re trying to have a family life and to have normalcy and you’re trying to be a great employee and a great friend and a great mom and really understanding just how hard that is and the cost that comes with having a life that big.”

Cameron Diaz and Drew Barrymore

Barrymore and Diaz’s over 30-year-friendship pre-dated “Charlie’s Angels” and is going strong to this day.

Barrymore previously told The Katie Couric Show: "She was 16 and I was 14 when we became friends. We were both LA kids. I worked in a coffeehouse, and she was a model. I served her a coffee, and we had mutual friends, and we just knew each other from around town. I will say this about her — she was always kind. Someone who looks like that, they could have an attitude, and she was the opposite. She was friendly and goofy and really nice."

Blake Lively and Taylor Swift

According to PEOPLE, Swift and Lively first connected in 2015 after Lively shared a photo from a L'Oréal campaign that referenced Swift's "Bad Blood" music video in the caption. After that, they met up for a hang in Australia and have been inseparable ever since.

Lively and Ryan Reynold’s daughter is featured on Swift’s 2017 song “Gorgeous.” Swift also name-dropped the couple's daughters in her song “Betty” in 2020.

You know the phrase “you’re the Gayle to my Oprah”? Well, it’s inspired by the enduring and heartwarming friendship between Gayle and Oprah.

As Oprah Magazine notes, they met in the 70s while working at Baltimore’s WJZ station in the early days of their careers.

And they’ve been so connected since that they’ve taken almost every single vacation together.

Oprah once said that Gayle loves, respects, admires, lifts her up, and supports her in every single situation. “That's an incredibly rare thing between even the closest of friends.”

In fact, they are so close that Beckahm even designed Longoria’s wedding gown. And Longoria is also the godmother of Beckham’s only daughter, Harper.

"She's very loyal, a very loyal friend. She's an amazing businesswoman, a great business mind. She's super smart,” Longoria said of Beckham during an appearance on the show "Loose Women" in fall 2016.

From on-screen “Friends” to real-life besties, Cox and Aniston are “inseparable.” The duo are as good friends as Monica and Rachel were. Their friendship has endured quite a lot, including divorces.

“There's absolutely no judgement in Court. You'll never feel scolded. She's extremely fair, ridiculously loyal and fiercely loving. I've slept in her guest bedroom a lot. Without giving away too much of my private stuff, all I can say is she's been there for me through thick and thin,” Aniston told US Weekly of Cox.

You can catch them posting photos from their hangouts on Instagram quite frequently.

The ladies were introduced by their mutual hairstylist and have been thick as thieves ever since.

“Julianne and I were both going through life crises at the time, and we were using that mutual friend as a free therapist, kind of,” Dobrev said on The Drew Barrymore Show in May 2021.

When they aren’t vacationing together or hitting up the red carpet, they are promoting their joint venture, Fresh Vine Wine.

Lopez and Remini's friendship has weathered more than ten years.

According to Oprah Daily, Lopez’s ex-husband, Marc Anthony, introduced them at movie premiere in 2004.

“We fell in love right there,” Lopez said of their first meeting, adding, “It was one of those instant chemistry things where you just feel like, 'I love this person. I love being around this person. This person makes me laugh.”

And it’s safe to say, Remini knows everything about JLo’s personal life even before it’s public knowledge.
