On Friday, during an episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show, the singer was joined by Andy Cohen to discuss his new documentary series based on the history of reality television. Clarkson and Cohen talked about the hit competition show that made her a superstar.
After winning in 2002, Kelly has been one of the most consistently successful American Idol contestants in the show’s history, along with her peer Carrie Underwood.
Cohen asked the singer, “When you won that show, did you think [your] career would be as big as it turned out?" Clarkson quickly shook her head no, laughing, “I thought, 'I'm going to be the most famous cocktail waitress in Texas.'"
Reflecting on being a part of the very first season of American Idol Kelly also shared, “There was so much that was so pure and raw. Nobody knew, not even the people doing the show knew if it would work or not in America."
However, as we have watched Clarkson go from Idol winner, to superstar, to entertainment business mogul, the recording artist not only hosts her own Emmy-winning daytime talk show, she is a coach on NBC’s The Voice and has three GRAMMY wins under her belt.
Andy’s new seven-part documentary series, For Real: The Story of Reality TV takes viewers through the history of American reality TV. The series covers Keeping Up With The Kardashians, Mama June, and of course, The Real Housewives franchise. Plus the documentary examines competition shows like Idol.
The first episode of the series premiered on E! Network on Thursday, March 25.
