Cooper was a guest on the BBC TV series Never Mind the Buzzcocks where he recalled a story from 1970 when he pointed a gun at Elvis Presley. Yes, you read that correctly.

Cooper received an invitation to Elvis’ hotel room in Las Vegas and found himself in an elevator with Liza Manelli, Chubby Checker, and Linda Lovelace.

The “Poison” singer said the group was searched for guns when they arrived on Presley’s floor, “which was kind of silly, because there were guns everywhere once you got in,” he said.

Cooper finally got facetime with Elvis, who asked him him, “Hey, man. You’re that cat with the snake, ain’t ya?” "I said, ‘Yeah.’ He said, ‘That’s cool, man. I wish I woulda thoughta that,’” Cooper recalled.

The two then went into the kitchen as Cooper said Elvis “opens the drawer, takes out a loaded .38, snub nose .38, puts it in my hand and he says, ‘I’m gonna show you how to take this gun outta somebody’s hand.”

As Cooper was pointing the gun at Elvis, he joked that “the little devil here on my shoulder says, ‘Shoot him.’ The little angel over here says, ‘Don’t kill him. Just wound him.’”

“Before I could decide what to do, I was on the floor. And he had his boot on my throat,” he added. “And I’m going, ‘Argh! That’s good Elvis!’”

Yeah, strange times indeed. While he can laugh about the odd interaction all these years later, Cooper called Elvis “an amazing character.”

“Very funny guy, but he was Elvis.”
