Thakor recently stopped by Audacy to share more details surrounding her perspective, the book and how individuals can know if they are victims of the “cult of never enough”
“I wrote the book because as I approached age 50, I completely face-planted,” she said before disclosing she suffered some serious medical complications that put her on bed rest for an extended amount of time. “While I was on bed rest, I had plenty of time to reflect and I realized I had spent my entire adult life trapped on the 27/7 hamster wheel of hustle culture and my whole adult life had been passed as a human-doing instead of a human-being.”
She quickly realized she wasn’t the only one suffering that way and embarked on a 2-year research journey to finding out why she got caught in the repetitive nature of “never-enough.” The book is the result of her research. Thakor hopes her book will find individuals that need it —whether they know it or not — and aid them in finding peace in their accomplishments. So how do you know if her book is for you?
“Signals that you might be stuck in the cult of ‘never enough’ include this feeling that no matter how much you earn or how many accomplishments you achieve or how much praise you receive, it just doesn’t feel like it’s ever enough because you don’t feel like you’re ever enough,” she explained.
“When you feel that you are in that kind of place, and the activities and beliefs that are driving your day to day actions are no longer resulting in happiness and enjoyment — that may be a signal that you’re trapped in the cult of never enough if you’re earning a living wage.”
