Bob Odenkirk on 'Normal'

Bob Odenkirk stars in the action crime thriller, Normal, alongside Henry Winkler and Lena Headey. Odenkirk plays an interim sheriff in a small Midwestern town who uncovers dark secrets after a botched bank robbery. The film goes directly from 0 to 100 in the blink of an eye. After watching it first hand the film is a really good watch filled with action, laughter, and guarantee on-the-edge-of-your-seat suspense. Odenkirk sat down to share insight on his new journey as an action star and why he loves the creative direction of director Ben Wheatley and producer Marc Provissiero in the movie.

'Normal' is not normal. How does it feel to be a whole action star?

"Well, look, man, I've trained for years now, and I still go to the stunt gym. I train with Daniel Bernhardt, one of the great stunt actors in the world. He has trained me for years now. Now, look, the stunt guys are way better than me, and they make me look good, but I can do basic stuff. I can even show you how to build a choreographed fight. I've learned enough now after three movies to feel some confidence doing it and enjoy it even more."

What did you like most about 'Normal'?

"Well, it was the writing first. The fact that the movie kind of has this, like this opening chapter, that's really kind of sweet and kind of like comic and gentle almost, you know, this guy's tooling around town, he's talking to the townies, they're having really nonsensical arguments. He's noticing some things are not right, but he's kind of turning away from that. You know, they've got way too many guns in the police armory. They've got C4 explosive, which you should never have, ever. It had these chapters to it that have different tones and I like that a lot, because as an actor, the great joy is to do, is to have range, is to go play a quiet scene, where you're doing sort of self-awareness and you're sharing feelings or a story, and then two days later, you're doing a screen fight with guns and punching and stuff. I like that dynamic range, which this movie has tons of dynamic range."

"Then when you add the director into the mix, Ben Wheatley, he envisions these scenes more fun and his vision is better than even what you read. The way he built that world with Greg Rementor, our second unit director, and all the fun stuff that happens, and the way people take each other out. That was just more comical and more entertaining than anything."

Normal is now playing in theaters.
