The group will be forced to take a year-and-a-half hiatus from recording and performing music to fulfill their obligation of serving in the South Korean army.
South Korea requires men ages 18 to 20 to serve in the army at least 18 months. South Korea’s Ambassador to Great Britain said, “It is very much expected that young Korean men serve the country and those BTS members are role models for many young-generation Koreans.”
Per TMZ, the Ambassador did not give a time frame on when the group will actually be called into duty.
BTS is fresh off a spy-themed performance at the 2022 GRAMMY Awards where they treated fans to a rousing rendition of their hit single "Butter."
The performance marked BTS’ third appearance at the GRAMMYs. Last year, the K-Pop superstars performed their smash hit “Dynamite." In addition to performing, BTS was also nominated for the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance GRAMMY for “Butter.”
