DaBaby had himself quite the eventful week, including some beef with Megan Thee Stallion, shooting his shot for a verse from JAY-Z, and closed things out by attending and hitting the stage at the 21st BET Awards on Sunday.

During his jaunt on Sunday’s red carpet, Baby chatted with Billboard about those Ludacris comparisons everyone seems to be talking since last week, when Lil Duval sent Twitter into a frenzy by declaring DaBaby as the Luda of this generation.

Setting the record, or at least his opinion on the matter straight, Baby explained that while Ludacris remains an inspiration for his visuals, there are many other artists he draws inspiration from for his sound and aesthetic.

"I wouldn’t even say we’re one of the same,” Baby said. “I feel like that’s too commonly used. I think people use that too lightly. I was inspired by Ludacris’ creativity with his music videos. I was inspired by a lot of people. Not only people like Ludacris, but people like Nelly. I mean, everybody.”

He continued, “I feel like as the generations unfolded, people from every era was inspired by somebody from the era before them. Even when it boils down to 50 Cent, Eminem, and Mystikal, everybody’s videos used to be crazy. Busta Rhymes’ videos used to be crazy too. So I definitely was inspired by Ludacris, Busta Rhymes, and several other artists with their music videos.”

Elsewhere in interview, DaBaby spoke about working with his pop artists. “I’m still staying true to myself,” DaBaby said. “It never was my goal to stay in a bubble. I’m all over the place, and there’s so much I can do as an artist. I’m never gonna stay in a box. I’m gonna do as much as possible.”
