The latest act to drop off the road is former Van Halen frontman and solo artist David Lee Roth who has officially canceled all of his scheduled goodbye residency performances at Las Vegas’ House of Blues which were originally planned to kick off on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.
Reps for Roth said via a statement that the decision was made, “due to unforeseen circumstances related to COVID and out of an abundance of caution for those working and attending the shows.”
DLR has not fully addressed the cancelations, opting to let a picture do the talking with a post on social media which shows what looks like a burning desert road below the words, “A funny thing happened on the way to Las Vegas.”
Roth, now 67-years-old, announced his upcoming retirement in September of 2021, declaring he would be “throwing in the shoes" following this string of dates in Vegas. Fans who purchased tickets for the canceled shows will automatically be given a full refund.
So far, no announcement has been made regarding any make-up dates, but Roth did make a statement to Fox News saying, "It's not about me anymore. When the benefits for Kentucky, Colorado, and Farm Aid kick in; Call me." However, if we know David, he's going to find some way to celebrate his departure from the limelight one way or another.
