On todays episode of "Things Rich People Spend Their Money On," Eminem apparently dropped $600 on a sealed cassette tape of Nas‘ debut album Illmatic.

And while $600 isn’t a terribly steep price, and our thrift loving hearts are here for anything vintage (yes sorry, cassettes are officially retro, and have been for a minute), we were a little perplexed as to why, before we found out about Em’s penchant for collecting the analog audio throwback, among other old school items.

During an appearance in a Clubhouse room as part of his Shady Con online event, Eminem spoke to Paul Rosenberg and DJ Whoo Kid about his personal music collection, explaining that he’s "been collecting since I was a kid."

"Everything from comic books to baseball cards to toys, as well as every rap album on cassette I could get my hands on," he said. "Not much has changed for me as an adult." The rapper went on to say that his "most coveted" purchase is an unopened copy of Nas’ first studio record Illmatic, which was released back in 1994.

"Man, I couldn’t find that s*** nowhere – I finally found one and it cost like 500 to 600 dollars for a sealed copy," Eminem said. "Because who the f*** had a copy of Illmatic and didn’t open it? Nobody."

Okay, we get it, and lets be real, people have been collecting vinyls long before Urban Outfitters made it cool, so why not cassettes. As a matter of fact, clearly visionaries ourselves, we snagged one from our Aunt’s house a few years back - Ace of Base - The Sign, which isn’t Illmatic, but still cool, in like a different way.
