It’s no secret that the three “Star Wars” prequels were not well-received by many critics and members of the franchise’s loyal fanbase.
Ewan McGregror, who played Obi-Wan Kenobi in the films, is opening up about their reception as he gets ready to reprise the iconic character on the new live-action Disney+ titular series.
"[It] was hard they didn't get well received. That was quite difficult," McGregor told The Hollywood Reporter. "They were universally not very much liked."
McGregor appeared in all three prequels, 1999's “The Phantom Menace,” 2002's “Attack of the Clones,” and 2005's “Revenge of the Sith,” alongside Natalie Portman and Hayden Christensen.
In addition to the disappointing reaction from the public, the 50-year-old voiced frustration with having to work with the extensive CGI effects used by director George Lucas.
"George loves technology and loves pushing into that realm. He wanted more and more control over what we see in the background,” McGregor added.
"After three or four months of that, it just gets really tedious — especially when the scenes are… I don't want to be rude, but it's not Shakespeare. There's not something to dig into in the dialogue that can satisfy you when there's no environment there. It was quite hard to do."
McGregor said fans don’t have to worry about the effects on the upcoming Disney+ series “Obi-Wan Kenobi” because it will feel "so much more real."
The new series is set to take place 10 years after the event of “Revenge of the Sith” and nine years before the original film “Star Wars: A New Hope,” reported CNET.
While Disney has yet to reveal a premiere date, “Obi-Wan Kenobi” will also see the return of Christensen as Anakin Skywalker.
"I'm really excited about it," McGregor shared. "Maybe more so than the first ones, because I'm older — I just turned 50 — and I'm just in a much better place."
