As one of the group’s primary songwriters, Mark Hoppus has written countless lyrics that have stuck with us throughout the years. As he celebrates his 50th birthday on March 15, we’re revisiting some of our favorite blink-182 lyrics that have us thinking, “what’s my age again?”

If you want to dig in further into the world of blink-182, be sure to check out blink-182 Radio, Audacy’s station dedicated to the band’s biggest hits, the deep cuts, and the countless artists they’ve influenced over the years.

“No one should take themselves so seriously/With many years ahead to fall in line/Why would you wish that on me?”

We’re starting off with one of blink’s most famous songs, “What’s My Age Again.” In a song full of great lines about being immature, but this line can really apply to listeners of any age. While we hope many years are ahead for everyone, the advice to not take yourself seriously goes a long way and is something to remember during stressful times.

“We can live like Jack and Sally if we want/Where you can always find me/And we'll have Halloween on Christmas/And in the night, we'll wish this never ends”

Here’s a great line from “I Miss You” that can apply to romantics of any age. Regardless of if you’re young, old, or in the middle, there’s certain moments in life you’ll wish never end.

“Now that all my friends left, this place is f****g dead/I wanna move out, when can we move out?"

Another song in the blink-182 catalog about love gone wrong, the line from “Shut Up” serves as a nice mantra for valuing friendships. When you remove all your friends from the equation, are your surroundings or the environment you’re in really all that great without them?

“I'll take what you're willing to give/And I'll teach myself to live/With a walk-on part of a background shot/From a movie I'm not in”

While “Apple Shampoo” is about a failing relationship and this line was written in that context, it does take on greater meaning and offer a piece of advice we can all use. It’s not up to the individual to decide their role in other people's lives. Sometimes, being a background character and having some level of involvement is better than none at all.

“Look to the past and remember and smile/And maybe tonight I can breathe for a while”

We all have embarrassing moments from our past. This line from “Feeling This” is all about letting go of those times and leaving them where they belong, in the past. Plus, if you can look back and laugh at those cringey moments, then you’re doing alright.
