The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that acclaimed filmmaker J.J. Abrams has struck a deal with Netflix to develop a scripted series about U2.

According to the outlet, the show is currently in the early stages of development and has yet to be titled. U2 is expected to be involved in the project and is expected to put their stamp of approval on their series.

Anthony McCarten has been tapped as the writer of the series, which is welcome news for music fans. Most notably, McCarten wrote the 2018 Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody.

The announcement comes at a funny time for the band as they recently made headlines when Bono admitted he wasn’t a fan of the name U2 and that his own vocal performances made him “cringe.”

“In our head it was like the spy plane, U-boat, it was futuristic,” Bono said of the name U2 at the time. “As it turned out to imply this kind of acquiescence, no I don’t like that name. I still don’t really like the name.”

He also opened up about the feeling he gets whenever he hears a U2 song. “I’ve been in the car when one of our songs has come on the radio and I’ve been the color of, as we say in Dublin, scarlet,” he said. “I’m just so embarrassed.”
