Jessica Simpson is on a mission to love her body, no matter its size.
The singer and fashion designer opened up about her relationship with her body in a recent interview, explaining that because she has “been every size” she can “understand the mentality of all women, and I understand loving where you’re at or wanting more, or wanting something better.”
In a conversation with People, the 41-year old said that she is happy that society is moving towards accepting all types of body shapes and sizes. “Things are changing. And that’s great because every body’s being celebrated,” she shared.
Simpson, said that she has “definitely embraced” her body, and surprised herself when she felt comfortable enough to wear a bikini during a family getaway to Cabo San Lucas.
“I never thought of being in a bikini again, because I was stretched out as big as the couch,” Simpson shared. “I just hadn’t though that [wearing a bikini] was even a goal until I put it on, and I was like, ‘I think I was afraid of that.’”
Simpson said she shared swimsuit photos of herself on social media because “for me, as a woman, to be able to look as good as I feel was a major moment. You’re proud of yourself and you deserve it.”
Simpson noted, however, that self-acceptance does not come easy. “It’s hard to not see your flaws first,” she admitted. She also touched on how she felt after her pregnancies.
“I always celebrate my body. The fact that it made children is unreal,” Simpson said. “But you just don’t ever think you’re going to fit back into things. It’s crazy. A woman’s body is phenomenal in what it can do.”
