Ecstasy, real name John Fletcher, of the legendary New York City Hip Hop group Whodini has died at the age of 56.

Whodini featured Fletcher and Jalil Hutchins as rappers while Grandmaster Dee manned the turntables. The trio was integral in the early 1980’s New York City Hip Hop scene and were one of the first Hip Hop groups to attain a national following.
The trio is credited for incorporating R&B sounds into their music and helped create the New Jack Swing genre. Throughout their career, they had a bevvy of hits including “Friends,” “Freaks Come Out at Night,” and “Five Minutes of Funk.”
Numerous artists began taking to Twitter to pay their respects to Ecstasy, including Jermaine Dupri, who produced Whodini’s sixth album Six.
“My God, this one hurts me so bad, I can’t even believe I’m posting this, Ex you know I love you thank you for every word, every conversation every good time, may your soul Rest In Power,” he wrote.
"One Love to Ecstasy of the Legendary #Whodini. This man was legendary and a pivotal member of one of the most legendary groups in hip hop. This is sad man,” Questlove wrote.
