Korn frontman Jonathan Davis has re-imagined his 2018 solo song "What It Is," finally giving it the Country spin that was lurking behind the foreboding track.
The new version comes on the heels of the band's cover of the 1979 Charlie Daniels Band classic "The Devil Went Down to Georgia” that was completed earlier this year with proceeds being to Awakening Youth, a nonprofit devoted to young people faced with the loss of a parent due to divorce, addiction, death and other reasons.
The original appeared as the lead single on Davis' 2018 solo record Black Labyrinth, making its way up to number 5 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Chart in 2018. Before you press play on the new version, you may want to set the scene with some hay bales and a new pair of cowboy boots.
Davis was most recently on Jackass star Steve-O's Wild Ride podcast discussing his struggles with drugs and alcohol early in his career, telling listeners that he kicked a methamphetamine habit just after recording KORN's third album.
The band was also part of RADIO.COM's special I'm Listening initiative, drawing on personal experience when speaking about the death of his estranged wife in 2018 due to addiction, and urging fans who may be experiencing mental health crises to seek help.
