Kat Dennings, 34, has opened up about her "craziest and most memorable" audition alongside actor Nicolas Cage years ago.
The "2 Broke Girls" actress, who is currently starring in Marvel’s “WandaVision,” told Variety that she was in the final audition for a “very dramatic” role that was directed by a “hugely famous director” and ended up being nominated for Oscars.
While she didn't name the picture, she did detail the unusual interaction with Cage.
During the audition, the actress had to pretend that she was escaping from Cage's character and was completely surprised at how it all played out.
"I'm ready to get into like the physicality of the scene, but I realized pretty quick that that actor is not going to touch me. He's also not going to be near me. He was at the other end of the room, which seemed to be his choice," Dennings said, adding that she was fairly young at the time.
"I was like, 'I'm going to be miming this.' So a scene where I am asking to be let go of and physically wriggling out of this man's grip became a miming session," she continued. "But I understand and I respect that the actor made that decision. But at the time, it was not great because I was like: 'I look like an absolute moron. I'm not getting this.'"
Despite the peculiar method, Dennings said she enjoyed working with the 57-year-old Oscar-winning actor, who is well known for many roles including the hit movie series "National Treasure."
"I'm actually really grateful for that experience just because I wanted to be in a room with Nicolas Cage," Dennings said.
"But what's nice is that he was so respectful, and I think that might have been where it was coming from, like, I'm a young girl so he didn't want to physically touch me and make me uncomfortable. I appreciate it. I really do."
