Melissa Etheridge’s Son Beckett Dies at 21

Melissa Etheridge’s son Beckett Cypher has passed away. He was 21.

The singer’s team confirmed his death on Twitter on Wednesday.

“We’re sad to inform you that Melissa’s son Beckett passed away and there will not be a Concerts From Home show today,” the tweet said and included the hashtag, “#TeamME.”

Etheridge later released a statement and confirmed Beckett's death was due to opioid addicition.

"Today I joined the hundreds of thousands of families that have lost loved ones to opioid addiction," Etheridge tweeted. "My son Beckett, who was just 21, struggled to overcome his addiction and finally succumbed to it today."

"My heart is broken. I am grateful for those who have reached out with condolences and I feel their love and sincere grief," she added. "We struggle with what else we could have done to save him, and in the end we know he is out of pain."

Etheridge finished by saying, "I will sing again, soon. It has always healed me."

Beckett was Etheridge’s son with ex Julie Cypher. The couple also share a 23-year-old daughter, Bailey.

Both were born via artificial insemination. The couple later revealed the children's biological father was singer David Crosby.
