The Batman is back!

Michael Keaton will once again put on his cape and cowl for the upcoming superhero film “Batgirl” on HBO Max, Variety reports.

Keaton first starred as the caped crusader in Tim Burton’s 1989 film. He later reprised the role in 1992’s “Batman Returns.”

The 70-year-old will star opposite Leslie Grace, the heroine at the center of the film, who is also Barbara Gordon, the daughter of police commissioner Jim Gordon.

While plot details haven’t been revealed, fans are wondering if Batgirl will look to the established Batwoman for advice and guidance.

J.K. Simmons was previously announced in the role of Jim Gordon, a character he also brought to life in Zack Snyder’s “Justice League.”

And no superhero film is complete without the villains! Brendan Fraser was cast as Firefly, a sociopath with an obsession for pyrotechnics.

The film doesn’t have a set release date just yet though it is expected to hit the streaming giant in 2022. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the movie is already in production in London.

Keaton has an exciting year lined up. In addition to taking on Bruce Wayne/Batman in the HBO Max movie, he will also bring his version of the bat to life in “The Flash,” which tackles the multiverses and will see Ben Affleck appearing as the Caped Crusader.

A first look at Keaton in the Batsuit was teased during DC FanDome’s in October.

The film is scheduled for release in theaters on November 4, 2022.
