The Reel Buzz: Michelle Pfeiffer to play Betty Ford in new Showtime series 'First Lady'

Showtime has announced that actress Michelle Pfeiffer is set to play Betty Ford in the upcoming anthology series, “The First Lady.”

The political drama will be set in the White House and focus on various former first ladies, according to the NY Post.

In addition to Betty Ford, Season 1 of the show will focus on Eleanor Roosevelt and Michelle Obama.

Pfieffer, 62, is a titan in the entertainment industry, with notable films including "Scarface,” as well as “Batman Returns,” and “Dangerous Liaisons.” Her recent films include “Murder on the Orient Express” and “Ant-Man and the Wasp.”

The actress and producer has won several accolades, including a Golden Globe Award, a British Academy Film Award, a Primetime Emmy Award nomination, and three Academy Award nominations.

Betty Ford, wife to former president Gerald Ford served as First Lady from 1974 to 1977. As First Lady, Ford was highly involved in social policy, and set a precedent for political involvement for future first ladies to come.

Ford is highly remembered for speaking candidly about substance abuse. She later founded the famous Betty Ford Center which raises awareness to various social causes including breast cancer, abortion rights, and equal pay.

Pfeiffer with star alongside Viola Davis, who is set to play Michelle Obama. Showtime has not yet announced who will play Eleanor Roosevelt.

“The First Lady” does not yet have a premiere date.
