Mayim Bialik didn’t just play a neuroscientist on TV, she really is one.
Playing Dr. Amy Farrah Fowler on “The Big Bang Theory” garnered her four Emmy award nominations; and her stint on that hit CBS sitcom got her another primetime shot with “Call Me Kat,” her new sitcom on Fox.
Not only that, Bialik, 46, recently landed arguably every brainiac’s most coveted TV job – host of the legendary game show, “Jeopardy!’.
So imagine the surprise when, as Entertainment Tonight reported, the PhD started diving into writing meetings at the show only to find out that she felt like "the stupidest” one in the room.
In a sitdown on “The Kelly Clarkson Show,” Bialik and Clarkson got into a fun chat about how just watching "Jeopardy!" can make you feel a little dumb.
Clarkson admitted getting just one answer right per episode made her feel accomplished. To which Bialik responded, "If you wanna feel the stupidest, sit in the writer's room."
While Bialik made sure to course correct and say hosting the brainy trivia show is “a lot of fun,” it also sounds more complicated and intense in reality than the dreams of envious wannabe "Jeopardy!" hosts might think.
"I mean, it's very fast-paced,” Bialik explains. “We film five episodes a day. There's someone in my ear telling me things all day, which is its own kind of madness."
And while Bialik quipped about the vibe of the writers’ room, Bialik is more impressed than intimidated. "I don't understand it," said Bialik. "I mean, these people have knowledge that is so beautiful."
Bialik landed the plum hosting spot after her teenage son Miles suggested she should go for it during the whirlwind ”Jeopardy!” hosting auditions of 2020-21. Some fans favorites (LeVar Burton) and intriguing pop culture crossovers (Aaron Rogers) made the new “Jeopardy!” job search grow into a buzzed-about story beyond game show aficionados.
And the intriguing outcome of Bialik sharing duties with former contestant Ken Jennings, coupled with the recent historic winning streak of Amy Schneider – who was also the first openly transgender contestant in the history of the show – has helped the show’s venerated stature get a viral spit-shine.
